  • General Explanation

    Welcome to memoWiz!
Congratulations – you have found the most advanced, efficient and fun way of memorizing all the vocabulary you need for the SAT test. The program allows you to work at your own speed through various mediums with maximum fun and success.

    How Does It Work ?

After starting with the filtering stage, to sift out words you already know, you move on to practice, taking tests and producing learning aids, all the while practicing using even your MP3 player.

Your personal vocabulary database will be started at the filtering stage, where memoWiz will learn the words you already know. Building on this is achieved by means of taking tests and practicing.

Your personal database is automatically updated every time you practice, whether it is by mobile phone, computer or MP3 player.

By focusing on unfamiliar words, your learning and practice time is used efficiently. Regularly practicing and taking tests means that memoWiz will be updated more regularly and thus tailor itself to your own specific needs.

    User Interface

Intuitive simple and fun, the interface is designed to provide you with maximum learning and minimum time figuring out how to find what you need.

Every page starts with the top section being the same, so it is very simple to navigate your way around.

You will always see these buttons at the top of each page and will soon become familiar with them.

  • On the top of the screen the following buttons will always appear:
    • Word Filter - Takes you to the Word Filter stage of the program.
    • Practice – Takes you to the Practice area.
    • Tests – Takes you to the page where you can Test your knowledge.
  • Help - Brings you to this page to guide you.
  • Exit – Allows you to exit from the memoWiz program.

  • Underneath and adjacent to the buttons a list of letters appears to choose the relevant letter for each stage. On the right of the line of letters there is a knowledge tracking window.

This window shows for each letter your current knowledge level (red= I do not know, green= I do know.) When you click on one of the letter buttons or place the mouse over a specific letter, the number of terms you know/don’t know will appear in the tracking window.

Clicking on the number in the tracking window will show the terms and their meaning. Clicking on the “I” button will take you to the memoWiz site.

At the left of the screen there is “find a word” and “tracking” window. A detailed explanation on how to use these windows appears below.

At the bottom of the screen are export buttons. A detailed explanation on how to use these features appears later in the “Export” section.

The main screen (with the opening message when you activate memoWiz) is the main working screen- the contents of this screen alter according to different levels of use.

  • Knowledge Level Colors
    • Green- denotes “known” level
    • Orange- denotes “known roughly” level
    • Red- denotes “not known” level

  • Button colors - meaning
    • Blue/gray – clickable
    • Orange- selected

  • Filter stage

The object of this stage is to begin building your personal word data base by filtering out the words you already know.

    How does it work?
Your task is to remove all the words you already know. All the words that you thought you knew, once knew, your grandmother or brother forgot already - remain!

    Important tips:

The filtering stage is quick and efficient (just forty seconds per page). This is not a learning stage. Do not get stuck on memorizing words here! If the meaning you know is not exact, the word remains and is not to be discarded.

Do not be disheartened if many words remain. At this stage they should!

    Practice

The object of this stage is to learn the words in your database while updating your knowledge level for each word based on your achievement.

(The hard work of updating your knowledge level is done automatically by the system).

    How does it work?
First of all, you will be asked to define the letter you want to practice. Upon entering the practice screen you will be asked to choose from the following definitions:

  • The letter or range of letters to practice - for example, the letter “B” or letters “G through M”.
  • Defining the area or sub-area for words to practice - for example, “Agriculture” or “Objects and Instruments” etc. (In the event you choose this option it is recommended to define the range of letters for practice larger than 3).
  • The order in which the words appear is either random or according to the alphabet.
  • The number of questions is between 5 and 200.

  • Please Note: You are not required to determine a knowledge level for the practice stage because our unique memoWiz technology focuses on the lowest knowledge level combined with the highest word level at low frequency.

Clicking on the “Start Practice” button will begin the practice session. You will be asked to answer questions selected by the system in accordance with your chosen settings.

At the end of the practice session your results will appear on the screen, showing your achievement. Clicking on each line of results takes you to a list of relevant words. After viewing your results you need to decide if you wish to continue on to the next practice level or exit.

Choosing a new practice will commence with the definitions you chose at the beginning.

Important tip: If an answer is not entered in the allotted time it is considered an error.

Creating Fun Learning Aids - memoWiz 2Go

memoWiz allows you to produce a wide range of learning aids based on your personal word database within your knowledge level. These aids will accompany you in your free time on the road, at work, during a boring class, at the gym, or when you are sick and tired of your computer…

    How does it work?

First of all, you need to determine which words you wish to produce; the settings will serve the system in generating every kind of learning aid you choose – don’t forget that definitions can be changed at any time to generate various learning aids.

    Creating Definitions

When you enter the settings page (bottom right of screen) you will be asked to choose from the following definitions:

  • A letter or range of letters to create– for example, the letter “B” or the letters “G” to “M”.
  • Your choice: you can define a range and sub-range of words to create, for example, “Agriculture” and “Objects and Instruments” etc. (If you choose this option it is recommended to define the range for practice of more than 3 words).
  • The order the words appear is either random or according to the alphabet.
  • The knowledge level you choose to produce. Important note: You can produce the words you don’t know, words you don’t know in addition to words you know more or less, or all the words.

  • By clicking on “Save Definition” memoWiz will show you the definitions you chose and store them in the system. You can change definitions at any time by clicking on “Settings” and return to that screen. After choosing “export settings” you can choose export aids from within the system (CD , MP3 player or Print).

    Printing

Click on the “Print” button in order to enter the print screen. This screen will show production definitions that you chose on “export settings” (letters, fields, etc.) and you will be asked to choose between:

  • Print cards on 2 sides (8 to a page) - to include 6 words on a card printed on both sides
  • Print cards on one side (4 to a page) - to include 6 words on a card printed on one side with a line for folding.
  • Print regular paper size (A4/Letter***) - to include the words and meanings in two columns.

  • Remember! In order to change initial definitions click on “export settings” button at any time.

After choosing preferences, click on “Print” and follow the instructions that appear on the screen. At the end of printing the word side (first side) on the 2 sided cards, you will be asked to put the pages in the printer without changing the order and click on “Continue”.

Please note: In the event the 2 sided cards are not straight, change the spacing from the end of the page that appears on the screen (enter the distance in millimeters on the right hand side of the beginning to the horizontal line that crosses it - if the line printed is already at the beginning of the page, enter 0).

Because different printers are defined differently, it is recommended when first using memoWiz to try to print a small amount of cards to set up the margins.

Produce files for your MP3 player

Click on the “Player” button to enter the produce files screen for an MP3 player. The screen you see before you is for definitions you chose previously (letters, fields, etc.) and you will be asked to define three parameters.

  • If you desire to create a secondary library for files according to categories (names, letters, or fields) mark a “V” in the appropriate box. If you do not choose this option, all the files will be saved in the name of the library you chose, named according to the date created.
  • After choosing your preferences click on “Go” and follow the instructions that appear on the screen.
  • At the end of the process files will be created according to your definitions in the library you created. To export files to the player they must be copied from this file to the player the same way you copy files to the player.

  • Please note: It is recommended to create a SAT file in the player and to transport all the files to create a separate definition between SAT and music files.

Creating MP3 files for your CD player

Click on the “CD” button to enter the create definitions screen. The screen you see before you is for definitions you chose previously (letters, fields, etc.) and you will be asked to define two parameters:
  • The name of the library you wish to export the MP3 files from.
  • The division into tracks according to the number of words in each track (A regular player has a maximum of 99 tracks only!).

  • In order to change your initial definitions, click any time on the “settings” button. After choosing your preferences click on the “Go” button and follow the instructions that appear on your screen.

At the end of the process files will be created according to the definitions of the library you chose. In order to export the files to a CD they must be burned by Windows media player or any burning program you usually use.

    Please note:

When you burn a disk by a burn program, choose the usual “create audio disk” program, this way you can use the disk produced for listening on any player, even those which do not have the ability to play MP3 formats

    Search for a word

In the “search” window on the main screen you can search for a word from the word database and retrieve the meaning. This helps you remember the meanings while practicing. Please note: You are not meant to use this window at the test/practice stage.

    Tracking

In the “tracking” window on the main screen (top right) you can track your progress while you learn.

When you first use memoWiz, enter “update test date” (right of screen) and enter the current date and the date of your SAT exam. memoWiz uses these dates and other parameters to calculate your progress and present you with your control of the material in relation to the stage you are currently at.

In addition, memoWiz will suggest to you letters that you should go back to and focus on. The calculation considers various parameters such as amount of letters left to learn in each letter, difficulty level, etc. It is recommended that you use the tracking facility while you study.

    Games

memoWiz offers you the most advanced games in the world to memorize words. Among the wide assortment of games you will find memoWiz has recently launched VOCABINATOR, a shooting game that helps you study without being bored.

*** A4 paper size is the international standard, but within North America the standard which is nearest in size to A4 is called ‘Letter’.
